Stanford Medicine’s Office of Faculty Development and Diversity recently spotlighted our very own Dr. Gordon Li!
Dr. Gordon Li is a brain tumor neurosurgeon at Stanford University School of Medicine. His leadership roles include being the Assistant Program Director and Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs in the Department of Neurosurgery, and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for the School of Medicine. The Li Lab studies the biology of brain tumors with the goal of developing novel therapeutics for the treatment of malignant brain tumors and translating that research into clinical trials.
What personally motivates you in the work you do?
People. Patients motivate me in my clinical work. Collaborators and mentees motivate me in my scholarship. Students, residents and faculty motivate me in my leadership roles.
What advice would you have for fellow faculty members?
Whenever you are in a conflict, try to consider the point of view from the other side. There is usually no absolute correct side, and in most conflicts, the other person is a good human being trying to do the right thing. There are often other considerations for you and the other party that have nothing to do with your current conflict that is coloring the interaction.
